Our Lagerhead Turtle Pond began in 2021. We are 25 strong and we have grown at a slow & steady pace. We meet on the 3rd Sunday monthly at 2:39 pm, at Coop's HL. Our turtle secretary takes the minutes of each meeting, and our turtle treasurer collects donations. We try to sponsor two families in need in December each year our the Holiday season with a Turkey & all the trimmings for a festive holiday meal, plus gifts for their children.. In the past we have also donated to Camp Huronda, a diabetic camp for kids with type-1 diabetes. We have also donated blankets to a rescue animal clinic. Each December we run a food drive, collect non-perishables for two food pantries.
At our local watering hole, we have a number of pint glasses with the turtle pint decal on the glass.. Each time a turtle arrives, they buy a pint of beer, presented in a turtle pint glass. One of the glasses has an upside down turtle pint logo. If a turtle receives this glass they must buy a pint for any other turtles present in the bar. You can avoid paying if you can preset your wooden turtle coin. It is a fun activity which we all enjoy very much.
Some of our recreational activities include an annual pool party, games day, axe throwing, bonfires, a Halloween costume party, and a Christmas holiday dinner.. We honour every turtles birthday with a rousing happy birthday song.at each monthly meeting.
